Cortisol pumps

Cortisol pumps

If you have adrenal insufficiency, then your specialist may recommend a cortisol (or hydrocortisone) pump.

Insulin pumps, which are typically used to treat patients with diabetes, can be used to deliver steroids, too – helping to control symptoms, prevent adrenal crisis and lower required corticosteroid dose. They deliver continuous hydrocortisone, which replaces your cortisol at tailored rates that mimic your normal cortisol circadian rhythm.

Cortisol pumps can improve quality of life, energy levels, concentration, stamina, school and work performance. They can also reduce the risks associated with long-term corticosteroid use (e.g. osteoporosis) by helping to reduce total daily doses.

Macintyre Health is one of only a few providers with the expertise to help set up and teach you how to use your cortisol (hydrocortisone) pump, in partnership with your specialist.
