Meet Siobhan

Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Credentialled Diabetes Educator

With a strong passion for supporting and advocating for people with diabetes, Siobhan Barlow provides diabetes services to the Proserpine, Mackay and Greater Whitsunday region. Siobhan is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife as well as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator. Macintyre Health is thrilled to welcome her multitude of skills to our clinical team.

Having completed a Bachelor of Business prior to her career change to become a Registered Nurse and Midwife, Siobhan already had a wealth of experience before her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011. This ignited her passion for access to quality care for rural patients living with diabetes. Siobhan then completed post graduate study in Diabetes Education and Management from Deakin University.

She excels in providing support for children, adolescents and adults with type 1 diabetes, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, type 1 diabetes in pregnancy, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes while also retaining her generalist role as a Clinical Nurse in Chronic Disease Management and rehabilitation at Proserpine Hospital.

Siobhan also holds the position of Education Officer for the Queensland Executive Branch of the Australian Diabetes Educator Association.

Siobhan understands to treat the individual and not just the disease and that a patient centred care approach is what she aims to provide to lessen the burden on the client and their family.

“I want to provide support and education to people with diabetes in a non-judgemental way by motivating and empowering them to manage their condition the best way they can.”
